I did a reward system for my Burritos last year and it certainly went well. Every good deed and sweet gesture were rewarded. Some would say that this is isn't effective because it is like a form of bribe but for me it is not. It's my way of teaching my kids that in every action you make in life, there is always consequences to it, either good or bad.
This year, we start anew. For every sticker that they receive, they get 10 cents for each. It isn't much but if they are zealous enough in helping around the house and continue to do good in school , they will accumulate a lot. I gave them the choice to spend their earnings last month but they chose to put it in their savings, their "Adult Money" as Ms. Burrito refers to. This is a fun reward system for my kids, you might want to try it too.
Rose,
ReplyDeleteYou constantly impress me with your parenting skills. You are indeed SUPER MOM. Don't let anyone tell you anything else.
I speak with authority as I have two children and seven grandchildren, and they are all good, good people.
Happy Blue Monday!
Thank you so much Sally, that means a lot coming from a successful teacher and Mom like you!

A very clever idea! It is good to give children a goal and give them the opportunity to understand just what consequences mean! The stickers element gives them a visual reminder!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you so much for linking to my new Monday Mellow Yellows meme!
Really good idea to keep Kids motivated towards good things in life.
ReplyDeleteI think you can start a new blog on "Parenting Skills" :):):)
Keep posting...
Rose, I love your reward system. Children need to feel worthy and when they do something worthy a reward gives them self worth. Keep it going.
ReplyDeletehappy 2013.

Never tried the reward system to my kids. what me and hubby usually do is,once they want something like if the little one want to play nickjrgame.com games, he has to finish home work first or do what he is told to do.once he is done then he get his reward.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's very effective because aside from the reason I gave them, it is also one way of teaching them how to save for future needs.
DeleteWhat a brilliant idea mommy! i would definitely do the same thing when my kids will be old enough to do what i want them to do. This is what i need in order to make my kids to be on the job as well to clean up their messes after them.
ReplyDeleteGreat teaching for your children and Zealous ~ great for Z

Reward system works for me, too. At least, the kids have something to look forward to after finishing a task or doing something good and worthwhile.
ReplyDeleteHope the zeal continues...

Reward system really works for the kids and I think this is a good way of teaching values to kids.
ReplyDeletethat's nice., i never thought of it. I think i should start it too thanks for the idea mami rose
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to reward them for being extra good in school and at home :-) We also gives our kids money :-) They both keep their money in their wallets :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm a believer of this system. This was what my parents did when I was growing up and I willingly did good things and studied harder in school because I know I will be rewarded in the end. I will definitely apply this to my little girl when she's in school already.
ReplyDeleteSuperb parenting skills, Rose!
ReplyDeleteHappy RT2!
I think I'm going to try this with my children. We are planning to have a common fund where we can put all our surplus allowance so we can do something special for the family on December.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to make your kids motivated to do better in school and at home :-) We do that with our kids too. They both have money in their wallets and never use it :-)
ReplyDeleteFantastic idea! Hope the burritos have fun with your idea. I did a version of zealous this week as well.
ReplyDeleteWell, Rewarding something for an achievement done always works well. It's been proven and tested :)
ReplyDeleteWow! this is a great idea. I can use this for my kids, all 3 of them :) well, Dan doesn't do stickers, he has his own job at McDonald's :)
