Home Appeal That Comes From the Heart

When was the last time you really put some thought into your home decor? Adding appeal to your home should really come from personal touches and design ideas, but there are of course times where it’s more efficient to just hire a designer.

But is that really your own personal touch?

Let’s face it, as brilliant as it looks when a renovator is down giving your home a makeover, it’s still not as appealing as doing it yourself or injecting your own personal flavour into your decor arrangement. Personality is key when designing your home and it’s important to focus adding appeal that comes from the heart, not your wallet.

Adding Personal Touches

One of the best ways to personalize your home is to simply add some personal touches. Yes, this sounds like a basic and boring tip, but that’s really all there is to it. Think of it this way; when you enter someone else’s home what’s the most interesting thing to look at? Is it that expensive modern vase that they have no attachment to, or is it that framed family photograph of their family? Most likely the photograph!
For a simple personal touch, consider adding picture frames to cabinets or even walls around your home. It’s a fantastic way to inject some appeal to your home and it’s more satisfying (in most cases) to see pictures of your family instead of some modern art painting that makes no sense to you.

The Proper Renovators to Use

When hiring a contractor or a renovator to help give your home a makeover, you should be looking at the cheaper solutions that can be customised, not a turnkey solution. For example, services like Million Dollar Makeovers are far better than regular expensive contractors because they can listen to your design and help you achieve the results that you want. If you’re going to recruit someone and pay them money to pretty-up your home, then you should at least have some kind of input.

Before you hire a contractor, make sure you gather inspiration first. Whether it’s snipping clips from fashion magazines or starting a Pinterest gallery of your favourite internet images, gather ideas and show your scrapbook (or online album) to your contractor and work together to design a home that comes from your heart.

Focus on Important Aspects

There are many important aspects of what makes a home truly feel like a home. Things like the kitchen appliances you use or even the television in your living room don’t matter as much as the colours you paint the walls or the rug that you rest your feet on. Many people don’t appreciate just how much of a difference a simple splash of colour can make to a dull room and they focus too much on unimportant components of a room such as the technology.
In short, if you’re going to design a room that appeals to you and comes from your heart, you need to think more creatively and less logically.

  5. I've decorated my home with family photos for years. I have photos that go back three generations so I have some very unique photos. I agree that a home should be a reflection of the owner. My friends tell me that my house is homey and comfortable and I take that as a compliment.

  7. You have such pretty decor and personal touches! All of my decor and design is done by me each item carefully selected. I could not afford to hire a designer and it would not be ME.

  9. I love home decor so much that I would not be comfortable with someone coming in, criticizing things, and then changing my home to suit their ideas. It just isn't for me.

  10. We are working on our guest room right now. I'm hoping we'll have it finished in a few week's time. We could hang more wall decorations, but I kind of want to paint some big areas first.
