Parents Care #Philippines

Living here in the States made me realize how  lucky Americans are.  They have so many resources for everything.  They even have aid from the government which I think is not happening in the Philippines (At least from my 30 years of living in my former country, we never had any help from the government even during disasters).   The only thing that makes me sad is the fact that America  belong to an  individualistic culture.  I came from a collective culture where we  take  good care of our old folks rather than sending them to a home.  What I admire about my husband's family is their close knit.  Their parents raised them very well so in return they  are taking care of Dad  like the way  he did took care of them when they were growing up.  It such a good example for our kids.

Below are some photos of Mama, my sister, and my   close friend back home.  They celebrated  Mama's birthday in Legazpi.  Thank you so much Ate Chay for  taking care of my family!
Looking at their pictures  made me cry because I miss my  mother so much!  I can tell how hard life is treating her.  She aged a lot since I left.  Oh Ma, if only I can persuade you to come over here.  She is  very firmed that she doesn't want to leave the country and that flying would kill her, sigh.

  1. That is awesome that your fath in law is doing so well. My grandfather is 94. He is doing really well and is living in an apartment on his own. To health.

  2. Yes, very true. We should take care of our parents as they have given everything from our childhood.

  3. I agree with you, living in a first world country has a lot of pros especially the good healthcare we can get-if we have insurance.I'm just thankful I have other siblings who could help me to support my parents if something happen.

  4. Actually, yes, the American government made other provisions to their citizens to be used for their way of life and take good care until at old age.

  5. We have more kinship here which maybe the reason your mom would want to stay put though it wold be a really happy event for you to be reunited with her.

  8. Our parents will feel very homesick. My friend already had her mom come over here in Texas but the mom insisted to go back home in PI because she doesn't want to live here.

  11. i am very glad that even though you are living in a foreign country, your heart still belongs to the family you left in your mother land, truly a Filipina. My parents are also very old now, age 73 yet still alive and kicking, love them so much as I see to it that I fully support them, from food, monetary allowance up to their maintenance meds and of course I never fail to always let them feel that the are so much loved and special :)

  12. Happy birthday to your mom! I can relate to your feelings how much you'd want to be with her or her to be with you. But we are just very glad that our parents are doing well back home.
