Being the Best Pet Owner You Can Be

Being a pet owner is not as easy as it may look in a movie as being a good pet owner takes quite a lot of work. Many people buy a pet without knowing the full responsibility of the choice that they are about to make. They are certain things that only pet owners might know about taking care of their dog or cat. The following are some tips that will help you become the best pet owner possible from the beginning of your pet’s life.

Be Careful What You Feed Them

There are many things that dogs and cats cannot eat as they are poisonous but are perfectly healthy for humans. Looking up foods for pet safety such as avocados for dogs or even Tylenol for cats is necessary as these can be life threatening if consumed by your pet. Limit the table scraps that you feed your pet as this can make their stomachs uneasy. The best bet for your dog is freeze dried raw dog food as it is natural and does not spoil easily and can be prepared with just a bit of water. The best things for your pets are natural foods as preservatives are harmful in pets just as they are in humans.

Exercise is Paramount

There are some breeds of dog that need much more exercise than others. Some dogs like English Bulldogs would rather be lazy on the couch as they are not high energy pets. Dogs like Siberian Huskies need copious amounts of exercise as many bloodlines of the dog have been used as sled dogs. Exercising your dog will lead to better behavior and can save your home from being destroyed by an over energetic dog that is bored. Taking your dog to a dog park will help them get out that excess energy while also socializing your dog to be around other dogs of different sizes.

Baths Are HARD but Necessary

Giving your dog a bath is something that you will have to do and neither of you are going to enjoy it. The key to bathing a dog is to give them baths when they are a puppy so they are used to it. Many dogs are frightened of taking a bath and this may lead them to scratch or even nip at you. Giving your dog a bath is something that you will have to do quite a lot especially if your dog loves rolling around in the dirt. This will help their coat but there are also some dietary things that can be done to help them have a healthy coat. Puppy shampoo is recommended as the chemicals in other cleaning products can be harmful to your young dog.

Watching For Changes In Behavior

Your dog or cat will mature after their puppy years but it is still important to look for changes in behavior. Even the slightest sign of lethargy can be a sign of something much more as far as health problems go. Paying close attention to your dog’s can end up saving their life or make their quality of life better. For example, many people think a dog dragging its behind on the floor is humorous but this is a sign of having worms. Your pet cannot speak so looking for different signs is more than important. Educating yourself on these changes in behavior is also important so you can decipher what behavior indicates something serious versus something benign.

As you can see there are a myriad of things to do when having a pet. Not all people are meant to be pet owners as they lack the discipline and responsibility to be one. These tips do not cover even half of the things that have to be done when owning a pet but they are a great place to start. Having a pet can be one of the most rewarding experiences in a person’s life as pets are considered a part of the family. Treat your pets kindly and you won’t regret it!

Made in the Philippines

Our neighbor has these  seashell products display at her porch. Upon seeing itm I told my daughter that I bet it is madein the Philippines.  She looked at the bottom of each products and sure enough, they are all made in the Philippines.  My daughter asked me how did I know.  I told her that  it is one of the  big saleable items in the coastal area of the Philippines.
I remember when I was a kid, we would gather sea shells and make our own curtain  or  window displays.  We never had any fancy stuff so we make our own out of the   resources that mother nature has given us.
I love this owl one, it looks really pretty.
These are the kinds of shells that we normally found along the coastal shore of Donsol, my hometown.

Glass with a Twist

Last year, I was hooked into li-ghting candles as a way of relaxation at home.  I kept all of the candle jars   because I know that we could use them for some sort of art project at home.  So  on Father's day this year,  we made some craft projects for Daddy instead of buying him a gift.  We used  colored sand, photos, andf other things  for him.  I am so glad that he loved it.
Omn another note, did you know that you can personalized  votive candle holders,.  You can make engraved items from glass with a twist like votives which I like because you can  put your own spin to a regular votive candle  holders.  I bet candle lovers would love a nice  surprise gift like that.  I know I would.  But anyway, if you want to check it out, you can go to Glass with a Twist and see  how you can personalized  things.

Another Mini Road Trip

Photos were taken on Juky 24th when we took the kids to a mini road trip down to Sandcastle, a water park located in the Pittsburgh suburb of West Homestead. I love the location of the park as it is located on a 67-acre piece of land along the banks of the Monongahela River.   The owner if of Sandcastle is Parques Reunidos, the same company who also purchased Kennywood Entertainment.
This was our first time coming to this place.  It is  located on the right side  where we drive when going to Kennywood.
This is a nice landmark on the way to the park so you will not miss the turn if going there.
The place is really nice.  I wish that there is a place likke this in West Virginia.  There are beautiful places here in our State  but it is not really well-developed.
Entering the   Sandcastle, the entrance where you pay for the parking area.  Preferred parking is $12 while the regular is $6.
I would say that I enjoy my time there, the setting is very relaxing as you can see the beautiful  view of the river.  I will post some photos  next time so please tune in.

Random Roadtrip Shots on our way to Hershey, PA

Our four hour drive going to Hershey, Pennsylvania was quite a smooth one.  The ids were very excited  to  go out in Weirton for a little bit so they were in a really good spirit.
It was raining on and off on our way to Hershey but we were hopeful that when we get there, it would be a great day.
These photos were taken in Pittsburgh area.
Here's the sign that we saw on the way, that we will have a great time  out there.
My husband  does all the driving when we go somewhere so I have all the time to take photos of things that  arouse my curiosity and interest.  Photography is such a relaxing and therapeutic hobby, don't you agree?

Musical Group at Hershey Park

This trio performs at the Hershey park when we went there.  My son was very entertained with their cool moves.  We also watch a group where they  performed the song Uptown Funk but instead of saying Uptown Funk they were saying "Hershey Park" which was  unique. I wonder if the  one playing the guitar on that group uses d addario coated strings.  Whatever they use, they sure sounded great and they did  great!
Here's the video of the tree peanut guy drummers.

Creativity and Productivity.

We took away our son's iPod this summer because he was getting addicted in playing games  in it.  It might sound very harsh but It is for his own  good.  We don't regret doing it because it  yoeld a good result.  His creativity came around and now doing things that  he used to do but doesn't do anymore when he got his iPod.  I was against giving them electronics from the very beginning but  "Santa" insisted that it  is good for them to learn things.  The problem is, when you become addicted to games, that's what you want to do all the time and that is not good because it hinders  productivity.
As a result of our  decision, he is becoming more productive.  He is building stuff with his legos, reading books, and interacting with us a lot more.
I think he did a great job creating this one.  What impressed me the most is that, he build it without any instructions.  He just think of what he wants to make and then  did it by himself. He keep improving this  creating.  It keep changing everyday  which is great as his mind is constantly working.
Electronics are good but can also be a problem.
We told him that if he does good in school this coming school year, he can have his iPod back  earlier than next year so we will see.
Aside from creativity, he also  practice piano  a lot more  compared to the what he  as doing when he still have his iPod.  I want my kids to enjoy what's out there and not just be content in playing games.

4 Ways to Protect Your Children in Your Home

As a parent, it’s very important that you care for your children in more ways than one. You need to make sure that they are healthy by feeding them nutritious foods and ensuring they see their doctor regularly. You need to keep them safe in public by holding their hand and teaching them about crossing the street and other potential outdoor hazards. And you also need to protect them in your home.
Giving them a clean and safe home to live in is extremely important. After all, your children spend more time at home than they probably do anywhere else, and you want to ensure that accidents and other hazards are avoided when your child is home with you. The following are XX ways that you can protect your child in your home.

1. Windows

Windows can pose a threat to children, and most parents fail to realize this. Make sure that you do everything you can to keep your children safe around windows in your home, especially those that are on higher floors. For example, make sure you don’t put a child’s bed in front of a window, otherwise they have an easier chance of falling out. If you have single-hung or double-hung windows, you should try to open them so that the top part of the window is open instead of the bottom. This will make it impossible for your child to reach, which will eliminate the possibility of them being able to fall out.

Aside from the windows themselves, you also need to keep them safe with window coverings too. Blinds can pose a bigger threat to children than shades, as children can get wrapped up in the cords. You should either use shade window treatments or tie the cords up high so your child can’t reach them.

2. Household Cleaners

Household cleaners can pose a major threat to children, which is why it’s very important that they are out of the reach of children. Most people keep their cleaning supplies under the kitchen sink. If possible, try moving these to another cabinet or area where your child cannot reach it, such as the garage. If you don’t have another place to put the household cleaners, make sure you invest in a lock or other childproof method to keep your child from being able to get inside the cabinet. This will help to keep them save from the harmful chemicals found inside the products.

3. Stairs

Stairs are another hazard for children in your home. Even if your child knows how to walk down the stairs safely, accidents can happen. Make sure that you put a baby gate at the top and bottom of the stairs to keep your child from accidentally falling down (or climbing up) the stairs. Serious injuries can occur if your child isn’t careful on the stairs, so taking this extra precaution will ensure that your child doesn’t hurt himself or herself while using them.

4. Banisters

If you have banisters in your home, you want to be extra careful when you have children. Make sure that your banisters are high enough where your child cannot fall over them. Different cities have different codes regarding banister height, so make sure you follow them. When in doubt, you should go higher.

You also want to make sure that all banisters on second floors are secured tightly. This way if your child holds onto it, it will not fall off. You also need to make sure that your spindles are close enough where your child’s head and/or body cannot fit through. This will help keep your child safe when he or she is on a higher floor.

Some Things to Bring When Traveling With KIds

When you have kids traveling with you, it is always best to bring  stuff that would occupy their mind  during the flight or  when on the road.  I always prepare  and bring  my kids things like Lego pieces , books, notebooks, pens and pencil, and snacks.  My daughter love to  draw  or write  when we travel so I always  keep that in mind.
My son on the other hand love to  build things so lego pieces are perfect to bring for him.  I just make sure that they are in a ziploc bag so he won't  lose any.
Snack and drinks are very important as well.  When you have snack in the car during a road trip, it eliminates the stop on food chain unless of course for rest stops which is necessary.
Hotels usually have complimentary drinks like tea or coffee but sometimes there's none for the kids so it is advantageous  when youhave juice or bottles of ater with you.

We are going on a road trip next week so  it would be something that we are looking forward to.

Adoption FAQ: Becoming Educated on Various Situations

Whether you are thinking about adopting, are in the process of adopting, or have already adopted a child, there will come a time when you’re in need of some detailed and trustworthy information. Because there are a variety of adoption situations that can arise before, during, and after the adoption, many adoptive parents find it best to seek out information for those situations that are directly affecting them at the moment. Even better, you may want to become familiar with these inevitable occurrences before they happen.

No matter what type of problem, issue, or situation you’re currently facing, the following are a few different options for you to choose from when searching for adoption information that matches your current and specific needs.

Online Forums

Thanks to the Internet, there are many online adoption forums you can choose from to find information that pertains to your specific needs. On these forums, you can see questions asked by other adoptive parents and read the comments that were supplied by other members of the online community. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, you also have the option of asking your own question in the online forum and allowing other parents to comment. These are open discussions, which means that you can have a conversation with someone whose answer you like best. Plus, you can also provide more information as the discussion continues, which could help you find the best possible answer to your specific adoption situation.

Blogs
Today, there are blogs for everything. If you want to find information from someone who has been in your shoes, try looking for a parenting blog or an adoption-related blog. Many blog owners use blogs to share personal stories about their life, so you can easily find one that falls in line with your specific needs. Many blog owners also provide contact information on their site too, so if you find a blog that you resonate with, you can contact the blog owner to ask them specific details about your situation and how they handled it/would handle it. Depending on the popularity of the blog, you may be able to get a response right away (or you may have to wait a while). Either way, blogs can be a great resource.

Adoption-Specific Websites

There are also plenty of websites out there today dedicated to adoption. Most of these sites will have a Q&A section that will allow you to search for your specific question. Depending on the site, you may be able to find an answer that suits your needs. Sometimes these sites are owned by a parent who has gone through the adoption process. Sometimes they are run by adoption agencies who have years of experience in the field. If you can’t find the information you are looking for, try using the contact information to reach out to someone associated with the website. If he or she cannot help you specifically, they may be able to point you in the direction of someone who can.

Other Adoptive Parents

If you want to find information about specific adoption situations, it’s often best to go straight to the source. Reach out to other adoptive parents you may know and ask them about the situation you have in question. If you don’t know any other adoptive parents, reach out to the adoption lawyer you used or the adoption agency and see if they can put you in contact with another adoptive couple or if they know about an adoptive parent support group you could join. These groups are a great way to learn from other people in your shoes and share your current situation to either help others or find a resolution.

No matter the type of adoptive situation you are currently in, you have plenty of valuable resources to choose from when it comes to finding your answer.
